TORONTO – Former Blue Devil defender Stefanie Fee tallied a goal as the United States women's national field hockey team downed the Dominican Republic, 15-0, in Monday's quarterfinals at the 2015 Pan American Games.
The U.S. jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the first half, and Fee put back a rebound a while later to extend the lead to 11-0. The squad continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities to secure a spot in Wednesday's semifinal round. Team USA will face Canada at 7:30 p.m. EST at the Pan Am/Parapan Am Fields in Toronto. The winner will advance to Friday's gold medal match.
"We just keep our head in the fridge and stay diligent the entire time," Fee said. "So if the ball is back there we make sure we have the presence of mind to keep it controlled, keeping the tempo and then attack when we want to."
Fee has been joined on the U.S. team in Toronto by former Duke teammate and current Blue Devil goalkeeper Lauren Blazing. The pair is looking to help Team USA gain qualification to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
