LANCASTER, Pa. – Redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing has been added to the women's national team roster that will represent the United States at this month's Pan American Games. Blazing will join the U.S. squad on its journey to Toronto, where it will continue its quest to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.
Blazing was first named to the senior national team in June of 2014 after previously representing the United States at the 2013 Junior World Cup in Germany. She also competed with the U.S. U21 junior national team at the 2012 Junior Pan American Games, helping the squad qualify for the Junior World Cup.
A two-time All-America and Academic All-America selection at Duke, Blazing has cemented her place among the nation's top collegiate goalkeepers heading into her final season. During the 2014 campaign, she led the ACC and ranked sixth nationally in save percentage (.786) and was second in the league and seventh in the country in goals against average (1.19). Blazing anchored a back line that concluded the season ranked second in the ACC and seventh in the country, limiting opponents to 1.18 goals per game. She also totaled 88 saves and notched six shutouts en route to receiving first team All-South Region and All-ACC accolades.
Blazing will join former Duke teammate Stefanie Fee on the 16-player U.S. roster. A defender on the U.S. women's national team, Fee most recently helped the squad earn a fifth-place finish at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Women's Hockey World League Semifinals in Valencia, Spain.
The Pan American Games are the world's third largest international multi-sport games. More than 7,000 athletes from across the Americas and Caribbean come together every four years for a showcase of pure athleticism. Years of intense training, perseverance and sacrifices enable athletes to be at their best performing ability as they contend in one of the 36 respective Pan American sports.
