DURHAM, N.C. -- Seven members of the Duke cross country team, including five from the men's squad and two from the women's team, received All-ACC academic honors, as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon. The five Blue Devil recipients on the men's side tied with Notre Dame for the most from a single team named to this season's list. Duke's five male recipients are the team's most since the 2012 season, when the Blue Devils placed seven on the all-academic list.
Duke was represented by graduate student Shaun Thompson, senior Blake Udland, junior Stephen Shine, sophomore Jordan Burton and freshman Stephen Garrett among those receiving recognition. Thompson returns to the all-academic team for the third time after being honored in 2012 and 2013, while Udland appeared on the list for the first time in his career after serving as a three-time honoree on the ACC Academic Honor Roll. Shine, Burton and Garrett each garnered all-academic team accolades for the first time in their respective careers, as well.
On the women's side, seniors Anima Banks and Madison Granger were each placed on the all-academic team for the first time in their respective careers. Previously, Banks and Granger both served as three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll recipients.
For a student-athlete to be eligible for All-ACC academic honors, the individual must earn at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade point average during the individuals academic career.
