DURHAM, N.C. -- After posting strong play in the first two rounds of the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament over the weekend in Providence, R.I., and helping guide the Blue Devils to their 25th Sweet 16 appearance, sophomore guard Grayson Allen was selected the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Jacksonville, Fla., native opened tournament action with a 23-point effort against UNCW, pushing fourth-seeded Duke past the 13th-seeded Seahawks, 93-85. Allen shot 15-of-17 (.882) from the free-throw line, both records for a Blue Devil in an NCAA Tournament competition. In addition to his 23 points, Allen also hauled in 10 rebounds, leading to his second career double-double.
Two days later, Allen paced Duke's offense to a 71-64 victory over 12th-seeded Yale Saturday afternoon, scoring a game-high 29 points on an efficient 10-of-15 (.667) shooting from the field, including 5-of-7 (.714) from beyond the arc. For the weekend, Allen shot a combined 14-of-27 (.519) from the floor and 19-of-21 (.905) from the charity stripe, while also averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.
