Senior Isabella Barna was selected as the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after earning the first All-America honor of her career this past weekend at the NCAA Fencing Championships, placing sixth in women's epee.
Barna scored a team-best 13 points to guide Duke to its second straight ninth-place finish in the overall team standings, the sixth top-10 placing in the past seven seasons for the Blue Devils. Barna, a native of Bend, Ore., won 13 of her 23 bouts while logging a +11 indicator to finish sixth overall in women's epee and garner Duke's 35th All-America honor. The performance was the best of Barna's career on the national stage, a year after placing 19th in women's epee during her first trip to the NCAA Championships.
