PORTLAND – Three members of Duke's incoming freshman class will represent the United States on Saturday when Harry Giles, Frank Jackson and Jayson Tatum suit up for the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team at the 19th annual Nike Hoop Summit.
Set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Moda Center in Portland, the Nike Hoop Summit has seen 178 alumni from both the USA and World Select teams be selected in the NBA Draft, including 13 draft picks in 2015. A total of nine Hoop Summit alums have been taken No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft.
Giles, Jackson and Tatum bring the total of Duke players to compete at the Nike Hoop Summit to 27, more than any other school.
Giles is unable to participate in Saturday's game due to injury, but has helped USA Basketball win three gold medals (2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship) in a 16-game career with the program. He owns averages of 11.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in a USA Basketball uniform.
In 2015, Giles was named to the FIBA U19 World Championship All-Tournament Team after averaging 14.0 points and 10.6 rebounds to help lead the U.S. to the gold medal.
Giles is the top-ranked recruit in the 2016 high school class and was a first-team USA Today All-USA selection as a junior, averaging 23.9 points and 12.5 rebounds.
Jackson will take the Moda Center floor fresh off of earning co-MVP honors at the McDonald's All-American Game in Chicago last week. He scored 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting to become the fifth Duke player to claim at least a share of the game's MVP award (also Hurley, Redick, McRoberts, Okafor).
Jackson also won the McDonald's All-American Game slam dunk contest the night before the game, becoming the fourth Duke player to capture the title (also Price, Henderson, Allen).
A third-team USA Today All-USA selection and the Gatorade Utah Player of the Year in 2016, Jackson averaged 28.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior at Lone Peak High School. Jackson is ranked as the No. 14 player in the 2016 high school class and will be representing the U.S. in international competition for the first time.
Tatum was named Gatorade National Player of the Year last week, one day after scoring 18 points in the McDonald's All-American Game.
A three-time gold medalist with USA Basketball (2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship), Tatum has played in 19 games for the U.S. with averages of 11.9 points and 4.1 rebounds.
The St. Louis native is the No. 2-ranked recruit in the 2016 high school class, and was named USA Today first-team All-USA and a first-team Naismith Trophy All-American as a senior. He averaged 29.5 points and 9.1 rebounds in 2015-16 to guide Chaminade Prep to the Missouri Class 5A state title.
Tatum was named the Gatorade Missouri Player of the Year in each of his last three high school seasons.
The Nike Hoop Summit will be televised live on Saturday on ESPN2.
