No. 60 Duke Falls 6-1 at No. 6 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 6 Wake Forest men's tennis team proved to be too much for the No. 60 Duke squad as the Blue Devils fell 6-1 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Duke sophomore Nicolas Alvarez tallied Duke's point with a straight-set victory on court one.
The Demon Deacons used doubles victories on courts one and three to take an early 1-0 lead. On court one, Wake Forest's No. 10 team of Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim downed freshman Jason Lapidus and senior Daniel McCall, 6-1. Lapidus and McCall fall to 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the ACC.
Wake captured the doubles point on court three as Romain Bogaerts and Dennis Uspensky upended freshman Vincent Lin and senior Josh Levine, 6-2. It was the first match of the year for Lin and Levine.
The match on court two between junior TJ Pura and Alvarez and the Demon Deacons' No. 51 pair of Petros Chrysochos and Jonathan Ho was halted with a 4-4 tie.
In singles, Wake Forest made it a 2-0 advantage on court two, where No. 24 Chrysochos downed Lin, 6-2, 6-2. Lin slips to 20-16 and 5-5 in ACC action.
The Wake cushion went up to 3-0 as Seraphim topped McCall 6-4, 6-3 on court five. McCall falls to 8-11 and 2-3 in league matches.
Duke registered its point on court one with Alvarez's 6-4, 6-4 triumph versus No. 13 Mansouri on court one. Alvarez improved to 15-14 overall, 4-5 in the league and 9-12 versus ranked opponents.
The Demon Deacons earned their final two points with a pair of three-set victories, on courts six and three. On court six, Uspensky defeated freshman Adrian Chamdani, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Chamdani falls to 11-14 overall. Court three finished the action as Pura fell to Ho, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (3). Pura is now 12-14 overall and 5-5 in the league.
Duke has two regular season matches remaining, both at home. The Blue Devils face Clemson at 3 p.m. Friday, April 15, and North Carolina at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 17.
