DURHAM, N.C.-- The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) released the All-Region squads Tuesday with three Blue Devils earning accolades. Duke junior
Sandy Choi, sophomore
Leona Maguire and freshman
Virginia Elena Carta received honors, after placing in the top 10 at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.
Choi, who hails from Seoul, South Korea, placed tied fourth overall in regional action with rounds of 73, 69 and 71 for a three-under-par, 213. Choi turned in her second top 10 placement at a NCAA regional as she tied seventh as a freshman in Tallahassee, Fla.
After carding a career-best, five-under-par, 67, in the final round at regionals, Carta moved into tied seventh overall with a 54-hole ledger of 215. Carta, who is from Udine, Italy, has now posted top 10 finishes in three straight tournaments. Her round of 67 was the second-lowest by a Duke freshman in regional action.
Maguire, a native of Cavan, Ireland, registered rounds of 73, 70 and 72 to finish one-under-par for the tournament. In two regional tournaments over her career, she was the medalist as a freshman and tied seventh this season.
Other regional honorees from Baton Rouge include -- Elise Bradley (Louisiana State University), Katelyn Dambaugh (University of South Carolina), Lea Garner (Brigham Young University), Leonie Harm (University of Houston), Linnea Strom (Arizona State University), Charlotte Thomas (University of Washington), Maria Torres (University of Florida) and Karolina Vlckova (University of Florida).
Duke will kick off NCAA Championship action Friday, May 20 with a 3 p.m. (ET) tee time at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
