DURHAM, N.C. – Three Blue Devils – Jimmy Herron, Jack Labosky and Zack Kone – garnered honors from the ACC as announced by the league Monday, May 23.
Herron and Labosky both earned second team All-ACC honors, while Kone collected All-ACC Freshman Team recognition. Herron was also tabbed to the All-ACC Freshman Team.
With Herron and Labosky's all-league citations, Duke has now had at least one All-ACC honoree in five straight seasons for the first time since 1994-99.
Freshman outfielder Herron has reached base safely in 49-of-54 games this season and leads the Blue Devils in hits (65), doubles (22) and stolen bases (24). The Harleysville, Pa., native is also tied for the ACC lead in double and ranks second in the conference in stolen bases. Herron's total of 24 stolen bases is tied for second all-time among Duke freshmen and he is the fourth Blue Devils rookie two swipe 20 or more bases.
In addition, Herron is the first Blue Devil freshman to earn All-ACC honors since Vaughn Schill in 1997.
Sophomore utility player Jack Labosky has emerged as one of Duke's top hitters in 2016, leading the team in on base percentage (.426), runs (37), RBI (45), home runs (8), total bases (97), walks (31) and times hit by pitch (13). In addition, Labosky is third on the team with 22 relief appearances. He owns a 1.59 ERA over 28.1 innings in relief and ranks second on the team with a 4.6:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Freshman Kone has started 53 of Duke's 54 games at shortstop this season. In addition to anchoring the Duke defense up the middle, he owns a .276 batting average with 24 runs and 16 RBI. In ACC play, Kone raised his batting average to .290, starting all 29 league games at shortstop.
Duke and Georgia Tech led all league schools with two selections each to the 12-member All-ACC Freshman Team.
Duke opens ACC Tournament play at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 24 against Wake Forest at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
