DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University rising senior
Rebecca Quinn has been selected one of 20 players to represent the Canada Women's National Team as it prepares to face Olympic host Brazil in a two-game series in Canada.
Canada will take on Brazil June 4 in Toronto, Canada and then June 7 in Ottawa, Canada as both teams prepare for this summer's 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Quinn, who is a product of Toronto, Canada, will get to play at home in the first match versus Brazil June 4.
Canada's roster for the home match series includes Olympic and FIFA Women's World Cup veterans, as well as some new faces that have helped to bring increased pace to Canada's side. The two matches against Brazil will be important tests to get Canada ready for the tournament in August.
Quinn is coming off a junior campaign at Duke where she started 20-of-23 matches on the season, while registering three goals. A Third Team All-ACC selection and All-Region honoree, Quinn helped lead Duke to 14 shutouts on the year, which is the second-most in school history. The Blue Devils advanced to the NCAA Championship match before falling to Penn State, 1-0.
Canada has maintained a rivalry with Brazil going back many years with a record of five wins, five ties and six loses since 1996. Most recently, Canada fell twice to Brazil in Brazil in a four nation's tournament in Natal in December, before coming back and defeating the Brazilian side in the final of the Algarve Cup in Portugal in March.
Fans unable to attend the matches in person will have the opportunity to catch all the action on The Sports Network (TSN). Starting at 4 p.m., June 4 on TSN 1, TSN 3, TSN 4 and TSN 5, and again June 7 starting at 7 p.m., on TSN 1, TSN 3, TSN 4 and TSN 5.
