RIO DE JANEIRO – Duke alumna Stefanie Fee and the U.S. women's field hockey team will move on to the quarterfinal round in Rio despite dropping a 2-1 decision to Great Britain Saturday.
The match against the British marked the final in pool play. Team USA finished second in the Group B standings, setting the squad up for a quarterfinal match Monday at 9 a.m. ET.
After the teams played through a scoreless first half, Michelle Vittese put the U.S. on the board in the 39th minute. However, Great Britain knotted the score early in the fourth quarter on a redirect off a penalty corner. The British tallied another goal in the 56th minute, and the U.S. was unable to respond before the end of regulation.
Monday's quarterfinal contest will be broadcast live on the USA Network.
