DURHAM, N.C. – Duke defensive tackle Brandon Boyce and safety Phillip Carter will not participate in the first three games of the upcoming season, head football coach David Cutcliffe announced on Thursday. While suspended from game competition until week four, the pair will continue to practice with the squad as the Blue Devils prepare for their 2016 season-opener against N.C. Central on September 3.
Boyce, a 6-0, 255-pound sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., appeared in 13 games as a true freshman in 2015. He compiled 24 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 quarterback sack, one caused fumble and one QB pressure.
Carter, a 6-1, 195-pound redshirt junior from El Dorado Hills, Calif., has compiled 18 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup in 21 career games.
