DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse program welcomed six freshmen and one graduate student to campus this week ahead of the 2017 campaign.
The class of 2020 features student-athletes from four different states and includes Gabbe Cadoux and Lexi Rieu of Maryland, Lindsey Reynolds of New Hampshire, Catherine Cordrey and Callie Humphrey of New Jersey and Sam DeBellis of New York.
“We are so pleased to welcome this long-awaited class of 2016,” said head coach Kerstin Kimel. “While a smaller class, we expect big things from this group as they are a great blend of accomplished students, championship experienced athletes and exceptional personalities. We fully expect that many of them will be poised to contribute on the field immediately and our staff is excited to work with and develop them to their full potential. Most importantly, I am confident that these student-athletes will contribute to the unique fabric of the Duke community and go on to represent and serve our university and athletic program with tremendous pride, spirit and class.”
In addition, graduate student Jessie Ambrose of Connecticut joins the program after competing at Columbia for the past three seasons.
“We are excited to welcome fifth year and Fuqua student Jessie Ambrose to our program,” Kimel said. “Having competed against Jessie and her Columbia teammates last season, our staff was entirely impressed with her skill set, play-making ability and most notably her competitive spirit. I am inspired by her decision to put a promising career in finance on hold in order to purse the opportunity to test herself and compete at the highest level of collegiate women's lacrosse. I am more than confident that she will be an excellent addition to our midfield unit and look forward to seeing her in Duke Blue this fall.”
