DURHAM, N.C. – Duke defensive end Victor Dimukeje was named to the ESPN Freshman All-America team, according to an announcement by the organization Monday.
This marks the 15th consecutive campaign the Blue Devils have had at least one Freshman All-America pick, dating back to the 2003 season.
Dimukeje, from Baltimore, Md., collected 39 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, four quarterback pressures, one fumble recovery and an interception. He is the lone freshman ranked within the top 45 of the ACC in total tackles for loss. His 7.5 tackles for loss are the eighth most in a year by a rookie at Duke.
During the Blue Devils' two-game winning streak at the end of the season to secure bowl eligibility, Dimukeje combined for eight tackles and one quarterback pressure. Against Georgia Tech he registered his first career interception. A week later, Dimukeje booked a season-best six stops in the regular season finale at Wake Forest.
The ACC had six representatives on the ESPN Freshman All-America squad with Dimukeje, Boston College running back AJ Dillon and center Ben Petrula, Georgia Tech punter Pressley Harvin III, Louisville linebacker Dorian Etheridge and Miami offensive guard Navaughn Donaldson named to the team.
