DURHAM, N.C.—For the second time this season Duke seniors Jack Bruckner and Danny Fowler were named the ACC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, as announced by the ACC office Monday afternoon. Fowler shares the award with North Carolina's Stephen Kelly, while Bruckner is the outright winner on offense after they helped lead Duke to an 11-8 win over No. 3 Notre Dame.
Riding 49-game point and nine-game goal scoring streaks, Bruckner tallied a game-high four goals to lead the 10th-ranked Blue Devils to the 11-8 victory over the third-ranked Irish. Bruckner tallied Duke's first two goals and three in the first half alone as Duke built a 6-4 halftime lead it never relinquished.
The hat trick was Bruckner's seventh this season and pushed his career goals total to 132 to sit in a tie for 13th all-time at Duke. He currently leads the ACC and 12th nationally with 2.75 goals per game.
Fowler, riding a hot streak of his own, anchored a stellar defensive performance by the Blue Devils against Notre Dame. The Wantagh, N.Y., native made 12 saves and allowed just eight goals to push his season record to 8-3 and his save percentage to .527 – second best in the ACC. With Fowler leading the charge, the Blue Devils held Notre Dame scoreless on four extra-man opportunities and to just 19 shots in the first three quarters. The eight goals scored by the Irish were the second fewest this season as Duke held Notre Dame to just .250 shooting.
In Duke's 7-1 stretch, Fowler is averaging 8.88 saves per game and owns a 7.32 goals against average and a .563 save percentage. He has stopped at least 50 percent of shots faced in seven of the eight games and made double-digit saves in four of them. He is 8-3 on the year with an 8.56 goals against average and .527 save percentage.
Duke (9-3, 2-1) closes its ACC regular season slate Saturday, April 15 against Virginia. The Blue Devils and Cavaliers face off at 1 p.m., on ACC Network Extra.
