DURHAM, N.C. – The ACC and the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday the matchups for the 2017 Big Ten/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge with Duke welcoming Ohio State to Cameron Indoor Stadium Thursday, Nov. 30. This year's challenge will mark the 11th straight year of the event that pits two perennial strong conferences against each other.
Duke and Ohio State will meet for only the second time in school history with the previous meeting also coming in the challenge. On Dec. 3, 2009, third-ranked Ohio State traveled to Durham, N.C., and the 11th-ranked Blue Devils came away with an 83-67 victory. Duke was led by Jasmine Thomas with 29 points as she hit 10-of-20 field goals.
The Blue Devils feature an 8-2 record in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and are coming off totaling a 68-32 win on the road at Rutgers last season. Duke owns a 5-0 mark in games played in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Ohio State has registered a 2-8 mark in the challenge over the last 10 years.
This year's event will be played in a two-day format beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
A year ago, the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball teams combined for nine wins over the Big Ten to win the 2016 ACC/Big Ten Challenge, 9-5. The outright title was the seventh overall for the ACC. The ACC owns a 71-51 record against the Big Ten in Challenge games.
Head coach Joanne P. McCallie and the Blue Devils return All-America Lexie Brown along with All-ACC selection Rebecca Greenwell and other letterwinners Leaonna Odom, Kyra Lambert, Erin Mathias and Faith Suggs in 2017-18. Duke will welcome in one of the top recruiting classes in the nation that includes McDonald's All-America Jade Williams, North Carolina Player of the Year Mikayla Boykin, Madison Treece and Jayda Adams.
The Blue Devils are also excited about welcoming in five-year transfer Bego Faz Davalos, who will arrive after playing the last three seasons at Fresno State. Davalos will enter her senior season as the NCAA active leader in blocks (346), rebounds (896) and double-doubles (37).
Duke will feature the services of Sofia Roma, Haley Gorecki and Emily Schubert this year after missing last season with injuries and transfer rules.
