LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Duke senior running back and kickoff return specialist Shaun Wilson earned a place on the Week 3 Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll, according to an announcement Monday by the Paul Hornung Award.
Last Saturday, Wilson rushed 18 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns, caught a team-high five passes for 33 yards and added 51 return yards to help the Blue Devils to a 34-20 victory over Baylor.
During the game, Wilson, a 5-foot-9, 185-pound native of Charlotte, N.C., matched the school single-game record with two touchdown rushes of 50 or more yards to also set the Duke mark for career rushing scores of 50 or more yards with six. Wilson broke the previous mark of four, held by George Clark (1944-47) and Jay Wilkinson (1961-63).
Wilson averaged 9.78 yards per rushing attempt versus the Bears to post the fourth-highest single-game average in school history (minimum 15 attempts). Wilson's 260 all-purpose yards were tied for the 11th-highest single-game total in school history.
The Paul Hornung Award, now in its eighth season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission, and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award Banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health, to be held at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville on March 8, 2018. This will be The Paul Hornung Award's second year as an associate member of the prestigious National College Football Awards Association.
