ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Duke men's golf team, ranked No. 2 in the latest Golfweek ratings, is back on the course this weekend at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.
The 54-hole event is set for 18 holes of play Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This will be Duke's seventh appearance in the GCOGCI, with its best finish being a tie for sixth in 2012.
The Blue Devils have had nearly two weeks off since their second consecutive win, besting a stacked field the Nike Golf Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. To date, Duke has defeated all but one team on its schedule.
The GCOGCI is another premier field, with four of the 14 teams in the top 10 of Golfstat's current ratings and seven of the top 25. The field includes No. 2 Duke, No. 5 Alabama, No. 15 Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida State, No. 3 Georgia Tech, New Mexico, No. 11 USC, Stanford, TCU, No. 13 Texas A&M, UCLA, Virginia, and No. 9 Wake Forest.
Senior Alex Smalley, who won individual medalist honors at Louisville, and junior Chandler Eaton, the individual medalist at Colonial, lead the Blue Devils through three fall events. The duo each were named to the Fall Watch List for the Haskins Award. Smalley is averaging a team-best 68.89, while Eaton's average is 69.11.
Smallley is currently ranked No. 14 in the Golfweek rankings with Eaton ranked No. 17. Smalley placed third in this event last season, shooting a 54-hole score of 11-under. Eaton was tied for fourth (-6) in 2016.
Smalley will occupy the No. 1 position for the Blue Devils this weekend, with junior Eaton playing at No. 2. Sophomores Evan Katz and Adrien Pendaries will start at Nos. 3 and 4, with junior Steven DiLisio at No. 5.
Duke is off at 10:20 a.m. ET Friday morning and paired with Clemson and Stanford.
