CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The ACC held its annual Operation Basketball event on Wednesday at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, hosting all fifteen teams as it previewed the upcoming 2018-19 basketball season.
Head coach Mike Krzyzewski and junior forwards Javin DeLaurier and Jack White represented the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils, speaking to the media about the widespread talent the team possesses entering this year along with the highly touted freshman class.
“I think we're going to be really together,” Krzyzewski said Wednesday afternoon. “This group really likes one another. We'll be a lot better than we are now, and hopefully we'll be worthy with our work and our effort to have a chance to win.”
Also answering questions from the media, both DeLaurier and White spoke to the development of their respective games and areas that they look to contribute.
“My job is just come in and try to make as many plays as I can to help us win,” DeLaurier said. “That may be taking a charge, getting rebounds and stuff like that—things that might not show up in the box score. When you have guys who are really talented at scoring the ball, that's what they do. I'm going to let them do what they do, and I'm going to do what I do well and hopefully win games.”
“I've really tried to work on the consistency of my game,” White said. “My three-point shot has improved a lot since I've gotten here, and my defense and leadership have grown. That experience for me has been great. This year I'm really looking to be a dependable player for the team. I want to play consistent and be a leader for us while doing anything to help us win.”
Duke hosts its final exhibition game Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium versus Ferris State. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
