DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt senior tight end Daniel Helm was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District III first team, according to an announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is first career Academic All-District selection for Helm.
Duke, which has had 23 CoSIDA Academic All-District nods in the last seven seasons, joined N.C. State (three), Georgia Tech (three), Clemson (one) and Florida State (one) as the ACC programs with a first team selection this season.
A three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member and 2017 Academic All-ACC selection, Helm owns 17 receptions for 172 yards and two touchdowns this season. The Chatham, Ill., product is helping Duke to 30.11 points per game, within range of just the eighth season in program history averaging 30 or more points per game. He has caught touchdown passes in the last two games and was a Preseason All-ACC selection by Phil Steele's College Football Preview (2nd team) and Athlon Sports (3rd).
Helm graduated from Duke in May, 2018, with a degree in mechanical engineering and is currently pursuing a master's degree in engineering management. In May, 2018, Helm joined 10 teammates on a mission trip to Guatemala for a Habitat for Humanity initiative.
Duke (7-3, 3-3 ACC) returns to action on Saturday with a road contest versus No. 2 Clemson (10-0, 7-0 ACC). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., on ESPN.
