Below are a couple special promotional games during the 2018-19 campaign:
On Sunday, January 27, 2019, the Blue Devils will host the inaugural Mental Wealth night to celebrate all mental health can be while recognizing the stigmas attached to impaired mental health.
“We want to help remove stigmas and bring awareness to all issues surrounding mental health,” said head coach Joanne P. McCallie. “Our #PlayFreeLiveFree motto will be seen throughout the day. In partnership with organizations at Duke University, the JED Foundation and other organizations, we will host a day of workshops focusing on helping to educate the public, bring to light real life struggles of other athletes and ways to help deal with mental health struggles. By utilizing our platform as Division I Athletics, we feel we have a great opportunity to begin the conversation and break down the stigma of mental health awareness in the Durham community, in professional and collegiate athletics and communities across the country. We will continue with this awareness campaign in the spring as we are working to host a Mental Health and Wealth forum in late May in conjunction with the ACC.”
The annual Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Awareness game is a special contest for the Duke women's basketball program. McCallie has personally battled melanoma since 2008 and senior Faith Suggs lost her mother, Susan, to the illness in 2011. This annual game, hosted in collaboration with the Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation, will feature elements including free melanoma screenings and many other elements to help raise awareness and educate the community about this deadly disease. To help in the fight against melanoma, please join us Sunday, Jan. 6 and help support the efforts of Polka Dot Mama Melanoma Foundation.
