DURHAM, N.C.— After a very impressive first season with the Blue Devils, sophomore Jaravee Boonchant hasn't disappointed in her second year at Duke. A native of Bangkok, Thailand, Boonchant owns three top 11 finishes and a 72.00 stroke average through the fall.
Boonchant took time out to answer some questions for GoDuke.com recently.
GoDuke.com: How nice was it to end the season with back-to-back wins at the Tar Heel Invite and Landfall Tradition?
Jaravee Boonchant: I know we have so much potential as we have always been up there in the leader board and very close to winning the tournaments. But definitely it was very nice to finish our fall season with back-to-back wins, especially with two individuals (Gina Kim & Virginia Elena Carta) tying for first at Landfall Tradition.
GD: This team seems very close and everyone gets along well. Is this true and what has been the key to this?
JB: Yes. We are very close to each other. I think 'understanding' and 'open-minded' have been the key to this. As you know, our team is very diverse. We have six players from five different countries with different cultures. However, we all understand the difference. We respect each other and are open to different cultures and opinions. Whenever we encounter any misunderstanding, we tend to solve it within the team right away. We won't let the issue drag too long.
GD: For you, over the summer you had a chance to play in the Arnold Palmer Cup. How was that experience?
JB: Playing with best collegiate golfers with the breath-taking view of Evian was one of the most memorable experiences in my golf career. Everyone was so nice and friendly. There was not any second during that week that I didn't like about. Even though the tournament has already ended, the long-lasting friendships will continue forever.
GD: Heading into the spring season, what things are you going to be working on?
JB: I will be working on every aspect of my game, especially the mental part.
