DURHAM, N.C. - As Duke prepares for the postseason, Blue Devil Network and GoDuke.com will count down the top plays from the first 12 games of the 2018 season. The site will feature one highlight per day with the top play revealed on Thursday, December 27 when the Blue Devils (7-5) meet Temple (8-4) in the Walk-On's Independence Bowl at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN.
In his first career start, redshirt freshman Chris Rumph II made quite an impact at Georgia Tech and checks in as play No. 6. Rumph II made frequent trips into the Yellow Jacket backfield during the contest, carding 4.0 tackles for lost yardage to tie the Duke single-game record. Rumph II capped the performance by recovering his first career fumble in the third quarter.
Rumph II enters the Walk-On's Independence Bowl with 24 tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, two quarterback pressures, one pass breakup and one fumble recovery. He is second among ACC freshmen in both sacks and TFL. His 8.0 hits behind the line of scrimmage are tied with Todd DeLamielleure (1998) and Vince Oghobasse (2006) for the sixth most in a year by a Duke rookie.
