SHREVEPORT, La. – One of the best parts of bowl week is reaching out to the local community and giving back to the area.
On Monday morning, members of the Duke football team took a trip to Barksdale Air Force Base and the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home. Barksdale has served the Arkansas Louisiana and Texas areas for more than 68 years. As a key Air Force Global Strike Command base, Barksdale has a pivotal role in providing a large part of the nation's deterrent force.
The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home is one of five throughout the state, operated by the Louisiana Department of Veteran's Affairs. The facility opened in 2007 and can house more than 150 veterans.
Blue Devil Network attended both visits and captured the sights and sounds of the morning.
