Blue Devils Hand Out Annual Spring Awards

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe handed out the program's annual spring football awards on Saturday, highlighting six Blue Devils for their outstanding performances during the spring practice period.
On offense, rising sophomore running back Deon Jackson and rising redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Robert Kraeling shared most improved player accolades. Last fall, Jackson rushed 29 times for 89 yards, caught four passes for four yards and returned two kickoffs for 39 yards in his debut season. Kraeling played in all 13 games and was primarily a member of the special teams units.
Defensively, rising redshirt sophomore cornerback Myles Hudzick, rising junior linebacker Koby Quansah and rising sophomore safety Marquis Waters shared most improved player accolades. Hudzick played in all 13 games, totaling one tackle as primarily a member of the special teams' coverage units. Quansah, the 2017 Bill Keziah Award recipient as the team's most outstanding special teams performer, played in all 13 games with three starts. He finished the campaign with 52 tackles, 4.0 tackles for lost yardage, 1.0 sack, two caused fumbles, one fumble recovery and one quarterback pressure. Waters received playing time in all 13 contests, starting against Georgia Tech. He totaled 22 tackles and 1.0 tackle for lost yardage while leading the squad with seven stops on kickoff coverage.
Junior defensive tackle Noah Waddell received the Blue Devil Heart Award.
The Blue Devils, who return 47 lettermen and 16 starters from last year's squad, began spring drills on March 21 and will conclude their stretch of 15 practice dates on Friday, April 20.
Duke opens the 2018 season at home against Army West Point on September 1.
