DURHAM, N.C. – For the fourth straight year, Duke University senior Leona Maguire has earned Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) First Team accolades, while sophomore Ana Belac and freshman Jaravee Boonchant were selected WGCA Honorable Mention All-America following the completion of the 2017-18 campaign.
Maguire joins only Liz Janangelo, Lindy Duncan and Virada Nirapathpongporn as Duke's four-time First Team All-America selections.
A native of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire registered three victories on the season, while notching nine top 10 finishes out of 11 tournaments. She collected a team-best 10 rounds in the 60s, which tied for the second-most in Duke single-season history. Maguire fired a 70.62 stroke average, the second-lowest in the Blue Devil record books.
Maguire, a two-time National Player of the Year, won the Jim West Challenge in impressive fashion with a 13-under, 200, while also winning the Tar Heel Invitational and became just the second golfer to win three ACC Individual Championships. Her eight-under, 63, in the second round of the Jim West Challenge was tied for the second-lowest 18-hole ledger nationally.
A product of Portoroz, Slovenia, Belac compiled a career-best 72.38 stroke average as a sophomore and collected her first collegiate victory at the Landfall Tradition with rounds of 66 and 69 for a 36-hole ledger of nine-under, 135. She notched three top five and seven top 20 finishes on the year, including nine rounds in the 60s. Belac finished the season ranked No. 34 in the Golfweek individual listing. Over her first two seasons with the Blue Devils, Belac had registered 10 rounds in the 60s and owns a 73.03 stroke average to rank sixth on Duke's all-time charts.
Boonchant turned in one of the most impressive rookie campaigns in Duke history posting a 71.62 stroke average with two top five, six top 10 and eight top 20 placements. Her 71.62 stroke average was tied for the second-lowest by a Blue Devil freshman in school history. Boonchant, who is from Bangkok, Thailand, finished tied for first through 54 holes at the ACC Championship with rounds of 71, 67 and 72 for a six-under, 210, before falling in a playoff to Maguire. Boonchant collected five eagles on the season to match a Duke record, while finishing the season ranked No. 25 in the Golfweek individual ledger.
As a team, Duke won five tournaments, including the ACC Championship and the NCAA Madison Regional. The Blue Devils posted a school-record 30 rounds in the 60s and collected a school-record 286.30 scoring average on the year.
