DURHAM, N.C. – Duke graduate student relief pitcher Ethan DeCaster was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Team as announced by the organization Thursday.
DeCaster collects the first All-America citation of his distinguished career. He is the 11th Blue Devil to earn an All-America nod, joining teammate Jack Labosky who earned third team honors from Baseball America and Perfect Game. This season marks the first time Duke has had two players garner All-America honors in the same year since Dick Groat, Bill Werber and Joe Lewis were named All-Americans in 1952.
A 2018 All-ACC and ABCA Atlantic All-Region selection, DeCaster was dominant out of the Duke bullpen this season. An 18th-round selection by the Detroit Tigers in the 2018 MLB Draft, DeCaster owned a 6-0 record with five saves and a 1.34 ERA over 53.2 innings. The right-hander from Shoreview, Minn., struck out 57 batters while issuing just six walks and limiting opposing hitters to a .217 batting average.
