DURHAM, N.C. – The Houston Astros drafted graduate student transfer Ben Gross in the 34th round (No. 1,032 overall) of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday.
A 2018 graduate of Princeton University, Gross, a right-handed pitcher from Cranberry, N.J., is set join the 2019 Blue Devil roster.
Gross is the first Princeton player selected in the MLB Draft since 2015. The second team All-Ivy pick, posted four wins in 2018 with a 4.47 ERA in nine starts. In six Ivy League starts, Gross was 3-3 with 40 strikeouts in 39.1 innings while limiting opposing hitters to a .239 clip. He fanned at least seven batters in four straight starts from March 31 to April 21, including a complete game shutout against Penn April 14.
