DURHAM, N.C.— Over the summer, the Blue Devils will be catching up with Duke women's basketball alumnae to see what they have been up to since leaving Durham. Our next alumna is 1992 graduate Robin Baker Verhulst.
Baker saw action in 82 games, while making 70 starts from 1988-1992 with the Blue Devils. She averaged 11.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists as a senior to close out her career. Baker scored 659 points, dished 252 assists and grabbed 226 rebounds over four seasons at Duke.
Since graduating from Duke, what have you been up to?
Since leaving Durham I have been busy raising a big family with my husband, David. I have spent time coaching at different levels (college, high school, youth and club) and now help some other coaches run a girl's elite basketball club in Kansas City.

When coaching, do you bring any drills, saying from your coaches from your Duke days with you to the court?
I have learned a lot of drills from many different coaches over the years. My dad was my high school coach and really was the coach that really peaked my interest in coaching. He had such a passion for teaching and coaching young ladies. In addition, learned a lot from Coach Leonard (and various assistant coaches) at Duke and then from other coaching stints after graduating college.
What club do you work with in Kansas City?
Next Level Eclipse (formerly Missouri Valley Eclipse)
How much has the game changed since you played to now as you coach in Kansas City?
The game has certainly changed in tempo and the players are extremely athletic. Rule changes have made a big impact to the women's game over the years. Very exciting game to watch!
Do your kids play basketball?
College boys, Quinton and Dalton, stick to intramural leagues. High school junior, Ashton, committed to play basketball at Kansas State University. High school sophomore, Payton, still trying to narrow down her college choice. Two young grade school girls, Kirston and Addie, play youth basketball in our club.
Have you been able to keep in touch with many former teammates/coaches?
I keep in touch with former teammates/coaches through Facebook and the club basketball world.
Do you still follow DWB and watch games when they are on television?
Yes, we try and catch as many televised women's games as we can. Not always easy to get televised Duke games in the Midwest.
Have you been able to make it back to Durham recently?
I have not had the opportunity to make it back to Duke recently. I believe it has been about eight years since we visited Duke. Hoping to get a chance in the next couple years to make it back.
Do you get a chance to play basketball any these days?
My basketball playing is now limited to the backyard only!
When looking back on your days at Duke, what are some of your favorite memories?
The opportunity to be part of a great university and wonderful team of great players and coaches.
Have you developed any new hobbies, etc., that you are involved with these days?
We are certainly busy raising our six children (guess that isn't a hobby). But keeps us very busy and we love every minute of it.
Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give to our current student-athletes?
Work hard every day and always work to be a better person/athlete each day. Cherish the friendships and relationships you make along the way.
Do you remember a specific class and/or professor at Duke that you really enjoyed while in school?
I remember a class about the Psychology of Religion and remember it being a very fascinating class.
