DURHAM, N.C. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its academic awards, with Duke earning a spot on this year's ITA All-Academic Teams list. In addition to the team honor, recently graduated Nicolas Alvarez, rising seniors Ryan Dickerson and Jason Lapidus, rising juniors Spencer Furman, Robert Levine and Nick Stachowiak also received recognition as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2017 and spring 2018).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Duke was one of just three ACC schools on the team list, joining Louisville and North Carolina State.
Alvarez earned a spot on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list for the fourth consecutive year with Lapidus receiving his third consecutive selection. Levine and Dickerson earned their second career honors while Furman and Stachowiak were first-time honorees.
Each member of the 2018 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes will receive a certificate to commemorate the accomplishment.
