DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman running back Mataeo Durant rushed for 92 yards and one touchdown while redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 183 yards and an additional score to highlight Duke's 75-snap scrimmage on Friday night at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Durant carried the ball 10 times, had a long rush of 53 yards and scored from one yard out. Fellow running backs Brittain Brown and Deon Jackson complemented Durant's evening with touchdown runs covering 18 and 14 yards, respectively.
Jones completed nine-of-16 throws and found tight end Davis Koppenhaver for a 37-yard touchdown. Wideout Johnathan Lloyd led the receivers with two receptions for 60 yards.
The Blue Devil defense was spearheaded by lineman Ben Frye, who was credited with three tackles for loss including two sacks, while linebacker Ben Humphreys recovered one fumble. In addition, safety Javon Jackson, cornerback Jeremiah Lewis and linebacker Jacob Morgenstern registered interceptions.
Duke will hold its annual Meet the Blue Devils Day tomorrow from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Pascal Field House. Admission and parking are free for the event.
Duke opens the 2018 season at home on Friday, August 31 against Army West Point. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU. Season tickets may be purchased by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE or online at GoDuke.com/FootballTix.
