DURHAM, N.C. – Duke returns to Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium for the first time since Aug. 26, welcoming North Carolina for top-five ACC action Friday night at 6 p.m. Following Friday's matchup with the top-ranked Tar Heels, the Blue Devils host James Madison of the CAA Sunday at 1 p.m. Both weekend contests will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
The home stand marks Reunion Weekend for the program, which will welcome back Blue Devil alumnae spanning multiple decades.

Duke Set for Showdown with Top-Ranked UNC
The Blue Devils and Tar Heels are set for a top-five showdown Friday night under the lights at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Duke's last win over the nation's top-ranked team came in the semifinals of the 2013 NCAA Championship, when head coach Pam Bustin's squad took down No. 1 Maryland, 3-2, to reach the title match. The Duke program is 40-17 against ranked opponents since 2015.
Weekend Promotions
The Blue Devils will celebrate the program's history and its alumnae throughout the weekend at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Duke field hockey phone wallets, stadium cups, posters and face tattoos will be available for fans Friday night at the Marketing Table, located at the entrance to the stadium. Sunday marks Pride Day for the Blue Devils, with Duke field hockey Pride bumper stickers among the fan giveaways.

Andretta Honored for Solid Stretch
Senior forward Caroline Andretta received a pair of accolades this week, beginning with a nod as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday. On Wednesday, she was named an honorable mention selection for the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Player of the Week. A native of New Vernon, N.J., Andretta has found the back of the cage in three consecutive contests, racking up four goals in that span. She had the game winner in a 1-0 shutout of No. 12 Syracuse Sept. 14 and matched her career high with two tallies Sept. 16 against No. 14 Saint Joseph's.
A Blue Devil has been recognized by the ACC in four straight weeks to start the season.

Duke Records Convincing Shutout in ACC Opener
The Blue Devils collected their third shutout of the season in a 1-0 defeat of No. 12 Syracuse Sept. 14. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Sammi Steele earned the 15th shutout of her career. Duke outshot the Orange, 21-0, and racked up nine penalty corners to zero by Syracuse. It marked the first time since a 2-0 shutout of Delaware in 2008 that a Duke team held its opponent without a shot.
Last year's squad posted seven shutouts in 21 contests, including a 5-0 victory over ACC opponent Louisville during the regular season.

Senior Forwards Setting the Tone
Senior Erin Scherrer notched the first hat trick of her career Sept. 14, pacing the Blue Devils to a 6-3 victory over No. 14 Saint Joseph's. Her seven points on the day marked the most by a Blue Devil since Heather Morris registered eight against James Madison Sept. 11, 2016.
The six-goal output in the win over the Hawks was the most by a Blue Devil squad since Duke dispatched Richmond by a 6-0 score Oct. 29, 2016.
Fellow senior Caroline Andretta enters the weekend with a goal in three straight games. She ranks second on the squad in the category behind classmate Rose Tynan, who leads the way with seven tallies this season.
Taking on the Nation's Best
Duke's schedule gets no easier this weekend, featuring a matchup with the country's top-ranked team in North Carolina. The Blue Devils have faced eight consecutive ranked opponents to start the season, including two top-five teams.
Duke was ranked third in the initial RPI rankings released by the NCAA Wednesday and second in the latest Division I Strength of Schedule ratings on FieldHockeyCorner.com.

Duke has won 13 of the 89 all-time meetings with the Tar Heels, including last year's regular season matchup in Durham. Alyssa Chillano fired home two goals off of penalty corners as the Blue Devils beat North Carolina, 3-2, last October. Rose Tynan added a tally in transition early in the second half and Duke held off a charge by the Tar Heels in the final five minutes of play to secure the win.
Head coach Karen Shelton's Tar Heels took over the top spot in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll last week and remained there in this week's edition with a 7-0 ledger. North Carolina is coming off of a 6-0 shutout of Appalachian State in its last outing Sept. 11. A Sept. 16 matchup against James Madison was postponed due to inclement weather from Hurricane Florence.
The Tar Heels pace the ACC in a number of statistical categories, including in goals per game (4.43), assists per game (4.00), penalty corners per game (9.29) and goals against average (0.42). The squad also leads the nation in goals against average and scoring margin (3.93). Ashley Hoffman headlines all ACC players with an average of 2.57 goals per game and teammate Erin Matson leads the way in assists per game (0.86). Goalkeeper Amanda Hendry tops the league and is third nationally in goals against average (0.55).
After going 4-2 against league foes last season, the Blue Devils opened ACC play with a 1-0 shutout of Syracuse last Friday. The program is 53-110-2 all-time in regular season ACC contests.

The Blue Devils hold a 19-11-1 advantage in the all-time series with the Dukes and are winners of seven straight meetings. Rose Tynan tallied a pair of second-half goals to help Duke earn a 3-1 victory in last year's contest at James Madison.
James Madison had a Sept. 16 meeting with North Carolina postponed due to inclement weather from Hurricane Florence, and remained at 2-3 for the season. In their last outing the Dukes shut out Appalachian State, 2-0, Sept. 9 in Harrisonburg, Va.
Ashley Gippe headlines the front line with two goals and one assist while Ongeziwe Mali also has two tallies. Caitlin Nelson has started four of the five contests in goal for the Dukes, compiling a 2.61 goals against average and a .706 save percentage to go along with two shutouts.
The Blue Devils are 66-26-2 historically against teams from the Colonial Athletic Association. Duke shut out William & Mary of the CAA, 4-0, in the season opener Aug. 24.
