DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's soccer goalkeeper
Brooke Heinsohn received multiple weekly accolades for her performances last week to help the Blue Devils earn four points in the ACC standings. The redshirt junior posted a pair of stellar defensive outings against two top 10 opponents on her way to selected to the
TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, while also being named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week.
Heinsohn opened the weekend with a shutout performance over third-ranked North Carolina, notching her fifth solo shutout of the season and third consecutive shutout--all coming against ranked opponents, including two of the nation's top three teams. The redshirt junior tallied a season-high eight saves, while facing a season-high tying 18 shots to hold the Tar Heels scoreless for just the second time this season.
The Norfolk, Mass., native followed up with another impressive effort Sunday afternoon in the matchup with No. 9 Clemson. Heinsohn registered five saves in the outing, while allowing one goal. The Clemson goal ended a stretch of 392 consecutive minutes for Heinsohn without allowing a goal, dating back to the Sept. 26 match at Wake Forest. On the week, Heinsohn faced 31 shots, while notching a save percentage of .929.
The Blue Devils have now had a
TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honoree for six weeks in a row. Heinsohn was previously selected as an honorable mention for last week's Team of the Week. The Norfolk, Mass., native joins the trio of seniors
Mia Gyau and
Ella Stevens, and sophomore
Mackenzie Pluck in players who have received Team of the Week honors in 2019. Pluck has received the recognition twice this season, while Gyau and Stevens have each earned the honor once.
Heinsohn and the 11
th-ranked Blue Devils return to action this weekend as the team travels to Louisville for the fifth-straight ranked matchup. Duke faces No. 16 Louisville Friday, Oct. 18 at 5 p.m., with the contest airing live on ACC Network Extra.
