DURHAM, N.C. – A 12-run bottom of the fifth inning separated Duke and Winthrop in the Blue Devil's fall exhibition season finale as Duke won, 16-5, in a nine-inning game.
"Today was a great way to cap off a successful fall season," Duke head coach
Marissa Young said. "The weather was perfect, and it was a great game played in front of stands full of an energetic crowd. We had another offensive explosion and strong pitching."

"I am really pleased with the progress this team made this fall," Young said. "There were some bright spots with improvements from returners and key contributions from our freshmen which make us a well-balanced team.
"This is a fun group to coach and I believe we have the pitching, defense and offensive production to make a good run at the post season."
Duke has fourth months to recount its fall season and continue to train and prepare for the regular season coming in February.
