GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Highlighted by a tied for second finish from senior
Harrison Taee, a pair of Duke men's golfers wrapped up the Grandover Collegiate on Monday at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
Playing as an individual, Taee posted an even-par score of 216 for the 54-hole event thanks to three consecutive rounds of 72. His 72 on Monday was highlighted by birdies on the par-5 second, the par-5 sixth and the par-4 17th.
Taee finished three back of the individual winner, UNC Greensboro's Nick Lyerly, who shot 3-under 213, and was tied for second with Virginia Tech's Mark Lawrence Jr. The tied for second finish marked the best of Taee's career, and it marked his first career tournament with all three rounds at even par or better.
"I felt as though I was extremely calm this week," said Taee. "At a challenging course like Grandover, one bad decision can really cost you shots and if you let a bad break linger, but I was very proud with the way I dealt with my mind this week. I have felt confident with the putter all semester and I holed some really good putts this week. The greens at Grandover can be tricky, they're grainy and have a lot of undulation, but I was very pleased with the way I attacked the hole."
In 54 holes at Grandover, Taee's cards totaled 13 birdies, 11 bogeys and just one double bogey. He was the only player in the field to card all three rounds of even par or better.
Junior
Drew Powell finished tied for 59th at 21-over par 237. He opened with a 72 on Sunday, and followed with rounds of 82 and 83 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Powell capped his tournament with an eagle on the par-5 18th hole on Monday.
