DURHAM, N.C. – Duke will travel north for a pair of ACC road matches at Boston College and Syracuse. The Blue Devils will take on the Eagles for a Friday night contest at 7:30 p.m., on ACCNX before making the trip to Syracuse to take on the Orange at 1 p.m., Sunday on RSN.
Duke dropped its first two ACC contests of the season over the weekend at home against No. 23 Florida State 3-1 (25-27, 21-25, 25-23, 15-25) and Miami 3-1 (21-25, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25).
Boston College is coming off a weekend road ACC sweep over Clemson (3-1) and Georgia Tech (3-2) and is 11-4 this season. The Eagles are led offensively by Jewel Strawberry with 182 kills (3.19 kills/set) and Cat Balido with 145 kills and a 2.69 kill/set average. Strawberry also leads the team in digs (164).
The Orange enter the weekend 4-5 after going 1-1 over the weekend on the road at Clemson and Georgia Tech. Syracuse is led by Polina Shemanova with 148 kills and setter Elena Karakasi has dished out 246 assists this season.
Duke is currently ranked fourth in the ACC with 113 blocks and a 2.46 block-per-set average and is led by sophomore
Lily Cooper with 68. Cooper is second in the conference with 1.58 b/s and tallied a whopping 16 in Duke's three matches at the Hofstra Invitational. Freshman
Lizzie Fleming is right on Cooper's heels in sixth with 53 (1.33 b/s).
The Duke freshmen have made an immediate impact on the program this season. Outside hitter
Lizzie Fleming has been outstanding at the net with a .327 hitting percentage. She has knocked down 81 kills and just 16 errors and has also picked up 53 blocks for a 1.23 block/set average.
Gracie Johnson has also been solid in Duke's lineup with 87 kills, is third on the team with 84 digs and has 20 blocks. Setter
Camille Nazor has been a force and has amassed 274 assists with a 5.96 a/s average. Nazor is also second on the team in digs (90) and is hitting .302 percent at the net.
