WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Duke track & field team opened competition at the Camel City Invitational Friday evening in Winston-Salem, N.C., at the JDL Fast Track. The competition featured one mark that ranks in Duke's record books and 18 top-10 finishes.
Junior Laura Marty headlined the action for the Blue Devils Friday in Winston-Salem as she notched the third-best clearance in Duke indoor history in the pole vault competition, clearing 14-1.25 (4.30m). Marty's first-place mark is also an ACC qualifying mark and currently ranks third in the conference this season and 13th in the country.
Sophomore Michaela Reinhart was Duke's lone runner in the 3000m for the women and placed second in a personal-best 9:31.82. With the NCAA's conversion time, Reinhart qualified for the conference meet with a conversion time of 9:27.17. The converted time currently ranks third in the ACC.
On the men's side in pole vault, Esteban Suarez and Cole Rowan posted personal-best heights as Suarez tied for second place with 5.00m to tie his personal record while Rowan cleared 4.70m for a personal-best height to match for fourth place.
Senior Liz Lansing started off the day on a high note for the Blue Devils in the first event by notching a first-place finish in the mile in a season-debut time of 4:51.49. Sophomore Leigha Torino clocked in just behind Lansing in 4:51.58 to take second.
Following her fourth-best point total in Duke history in the pentathlon at the Armory Collegiate, Erin Marsh competed in the 60m hurdles and clocked in at 8.65 in both the prequalifying and final to take fourth in both sections.
The Blue Devils will be back in action Saturday beginning with the men's distance medley relay at 1:25 p.m.
