Go DJ, That's My DJ...
It's been a red-hot start to the career of Deja Davis, as the rookie infielder enters the weekend leading Duke with a .364 clip, 12 hits and 10 stolen bases. Davis is coming off a 4-for-4 showing against NC Central on Tuesday, just the second four-hit performance in program history, joining teammate Rachel Abboud, who went 4-for-4 against Boston College on March 17, 2018.
Davis has been a stud on the base paths for Duke, going 10-for-10, including a pair of 3-for-3 showings in the last two contests to set and then tie the school single-game record. With six more steals, Davis will tie Jameson Kavel for the program recorrd of 16 set last season.
Got The Need, The Need For Speed...
The Blue Devils have been a terror on the base paths for opposing teams through the first 10 games of the year. Duke has 19 stolen bases, seven more than where they stood through 10 games last season. Those 19 are third in the ACC, while Duke's 1.90 steals per game average is 33rd nationally. Last time out, the Blue Devils tallied six steals against NC Central, which set the program single-game record, which had been previously set the game before with five against Penn State on Feb. 17.
Walters Shines Against Penn State...
Freshman Shelby Walters was locked in from the get-go in Sunday's 3-1 win against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Not even an hour and 23 minute rain delay could slow down the righty ace as she turned in her second complete game of the weekend and registered a career-high six strikeouts to earn her first-career victory.
Going Baaaaack To Back...
Wednesday's win at Campbell featured a little bit of history courtesy of two of Duke's newest members. With two on and no outs in the fifth, freshman Caroline Jacobsen blasted a three-run shot on the first pitch to left, just like she did in her first-career homer in Mexico. Freshman Kristina Foreman followed her lead, hitting a solo shot to right center to give Duke back-to-back home runs for the first time in history.
