DURHAM, N.C. – A trio of former Blue Devils are on their way to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Ind., this week. All-America linebacker Joe Giles-Harris, All-ACC tight end Daniel Helm and three-year starting quarterback Daniel Jones will represent the Duke football program during the combine.
The event, which will gather more than 300 NFL prospects, begins on Tuesday and runs through Monday. The schedule will have Jones and Helm arriving Wednesday and going through drills on Saturday with Giles-Harris getting to Indianapolis Thursday and taking his turn on the field Sunday.
Live television coverage will be provided by NFL Network from Friday to Monday. ABC will also broadcast two hours of live on-site coverage during the quarterback and wide receiver drills on Saturday, staring at 1 p.m.
Giles-Harris, a 6-2, 240-pound linebacker from Nyack, N.Y., was an All-America selection in 2017 and earned first team All-ACC honors in 2017 and 2018 to become the first Duke linebacker with multiple first team all-league accolades since Mike Junkin in 1985-86. He played in and started 34 career games with the Blue Devils and compiled 312 tackles, 32.0 tackles for lost yardage, 9.5 sacks, 15 quarterback pressures, one caused fumble and one fumble recovery.
Helm, a 6-4, 255-pound tight end from Chatham, Ill., who joined the program in January of 2015 after transferring from the University of Tennessee, was a third team All-ACC selection as a senior and finished his Duke career playing in 38 games (24 starts) with 69 receptions for 767 yards (11.12) and six touchdowns. He was also a two-time Academic All-ACC honoree.
Jones, a 6-5, 220-pound quarterback from Charlotte, N.C., was a two-year captain and two-time team Most Valuable Player with the Blue Devils. He played in and started 36 career games at Duke, completing 764 of 1,275 (.599) passes for 8,201 yards with 52 touchdowns and 29 interceptions while rushing 406 times for 1,323 yards and 17 scores. Jones was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Reese's Senior Bowl and capped his Duke career by earning Walk-On's Independence Bowl Offensive Player of the Game honors.
