DURHAM, N.C. – The third-ranked Duke women's tennis team is back in action for a pair of ACC matches this weekend against Louisville and 22nd-ranked Virginia. The Blue Devils will travel to Louisville, Ky., for a 4 p.m., match against the Cardinals Friday before returning to Durham to welcome the Cavaliers Sunday for a noon first serve in Ambler Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils are coming off a weekend sweep at home as they blanked No. 15 Wake Forest and Pittsburgh both 7-0, improving to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Senior Ellyse Hamlin was named ACC Co-Player of the Week following her performance over the weekend as she went undefeated in both singles and doubles matches. Hamlin teamed up with Kelly Chen to take down No. 38 Chandler Carter and Emma Davis of Wake Forest.
The Blue Devils continue to hold the No. 3 spot on the most recent ITA team rankings and feature several on the singles and doubles list. Junior Meible Chi checks in at No. 14 followed by freshman Maria Mateas (No. 15) and Chen (No. 22).
Chen is 11-2 this season, followed by Chi (9-2) and Mateas (6-6). The Blue Devils are led by Hamlin with a 13-1 overall record.
McCarthy and Hamlin earned the No. 24 spot on the dubs list with a 9-3 record this season. McCarthy earned another place on the doubles list with Chi as they are No. 36, followed by Hamlin and Chen (No. 69).
Duke has dominated the series since the Cardinals joined the conference as they lead 5-0. In their last meeting in Durham, Duke secured a 6-1 victory.
The Cardinals are 10-7 overall and 2-5 in ACC play and are coming off a bye week. In their last match, Louisville fell to Georgia Tech (4-0).
The Cardinals are led by junior Raven Neely with a 13-2 record in singles and sophomore Nikolina Jovic with 11 singles victories. Redshirt senior Aleksandra Mally and freshman Diana Wong are 4-1 in doubles on court three.
Sunday marks the 68th meeting between the Blue Devils and the Cavaliers with Duke holding a 60-7 series advantage. In their last meeting, Duke captured a 7-0 victory in Charlottesville.
No. 22 Virginia is 11-4 overall and 4-3 in ACC action and are coming off a 5-2 road win at No. 23 Michigan last week.
Virginia is represented in the individual rankings by No. 39 Meghan Kelley, No. 69 Amber O'Dell and No. 108 Chloe Gullickson. In doubles, No. 19 Kelley and Sofia Munera and No. 70 Gullickson and O'Dell are tabbed for the Cavaliers.
