DURHAM, N.C. – Four from the Duke track & field program were tabbed to the 2019 All-ACC Academic Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team, as announced by the conference Friday.
The Blue Devils that received the honor were Iyin Battle, Rivers Ridout, Cole Rowan and Matt Wisner.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., Battle rounded out his time as a Blue Devil as one of the best in men's hammer throw. Battle is second all-time at Duke after he launched the hammer 193-5 (58.96m) at the annual Battle of the Blues. At the ACC Championships, Battle earned second team All-ACC accolades and finished in the top 10 on seven different occasions.
Ridout rounded out his senior season as Duke's top male high jumper, earning second team All-ACC honors. The Searcy, Ark., native recorded a season best 7-0.25 (2.14m) at the Virginia Grand Prix and owns the third-best clearance in outdoor history.
Rowan made an immediate impact on the pole vault squad as a rookie after clearing 16-0.75 (4.90m) at the Virginia Grand Prix, Duke's best height clearance this season. Rowan also collected second team All-ACC nods with his fourth-place finish at the conference championships.
Wisner wrapped up his junior campaign with a silver medal in the 800m at the ACC Outdoor Championships as he clocked in at 1:50.34. The Carlisle, Pa., native registered six top-10 finishes that included the fastest time this season (1:49.32) at the Duke Invite. Wisner also owns the fourth-fastest time in Duke outdoor history (1:48.04).
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Each student-athlete named to the 2019 All-ACC Outdoor Track and Field Academic Teams was an All-American or an All-ACC first- or second-team performer, a qualifier for the NCAA Championship finals June 5-8 in Austin, and/or an ACC Performer of the Week selection during the regular season.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
