DURHAM, N.C. – Duke senior Margaux Paolino and the United States' women's national field hockey squad begin their title defense at the Pan American Games Monday in Lima, Peru. The squad opens pool play against Mexico at 3 p.m. ET.
Team USA, listed 13th in the latest International Hockey Federation (FIH) world rankings, will compete in Pool B along with 15th-ranked Chile, 30th-ranked Mexico and 38th-ranked Peru. Argentina, Canada, Cuba and Uruguay comprise Pool A.
Pool play on the women's side continues through Sunday, followed by quarterfinals Tuesday, Aug. 6 and placement contests Friday, Aug. 9.
The U.S. has captured each of the last two Pan American titles, and heads into the tournament seeking qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Paolino has been a member of the senior national team since March, 2018 and 21 caps. She previously captured a silver medal with a U.S. team at the 2016 Women's Junior Pan American Games in Trinidad & Tobago. Last year, she competed with Team USA at the 2018 Vitality Women's Hockey World Cup in London, where she scored two goals.
Following Monday's contest against Mexico, the U.S. faces Chile Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. A complete game schedule is available here.
