DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head coach Pam Bustin and the Blue Devil field hockey program have announced the addition of Hattie Bevan to the roster for the 2019 campaign. A graduate student midfielder/forward, Bevan comes to Durham from the University of Cambridge in England.
At Cambridge, Bevan competed with the Blues hockey varsity squad for three years and was awarded a full blue each season. She served as captain of the Blues first team in 2018-19.
Prior to her arrival at Cambridge, Bevan, a native of Cheltenham, England, played for the Cheltenham Hockey Club in the England Hockey National League.
She was also a member of regional training squads from the age of 15-18 and completed an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) in association with England hockey at the U17 level. Additionally, Bevan competed in the Sainsbury's School Games for England's U17 team.

Why did you choose Duke?
Hattie Bevan: I heard about Duke through Chessie Ruffell, who played in the 2016-17 season and got convinced - the opportunity to come to the U.S. and play at the highest level of college hockey is a no brainer! Safe to say the athletic support here will help me balance hockey and studying at Fuqua in the MMS program.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
HB: Beating Oxford in my first game as a fresher at Cambridge – I understood the rivalry when I played them, but in hindsight it means so much more.
When did you start playing field hockey?
HB: Started playing at school around age eight, joined my first club age 12 and got hooked from there on in.
What are your goals for your Duke career?
HB: Give what I can to Duke on the field and off the field, and take on board everything that I can too!
Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
HB: My family (parents and sisters) – always active and overachieving.
To be a part of the Duke field hockey program is … an amazing honor and opportunity, and can't wait to see what it's all about.
