DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior quarterback Quentin Harris has been named to the Watch List for the 2019 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Presented by A.O. Smith, announced by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc.
Established in 1987, the Unitas Award is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior and on schedule to graduate with their class.
Harris is one of three ACC quarterbacks on the list joining Bryce Perkins (Virginia) and Ryan Willis (Virginia Tech).
Harris, a 6-1 200-pound native of Wilton, Conn., will open the 2019 campaign as the starter for the Blue Devils. In 23 career games (2 starts), he has completed 41-of-81 (.506) passes for 510 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception, holding a career passer rating of 133.63. On the ground, Harris has rushed for 275 yards on 78 carries (3.53) and seven touchdowns. He enters the 2019 season ranking fourth among active ACC quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns.
In two starts last season against Baylor and N.C. Central, Harris led the Blue Devils to victory on both occasions. Over the two contests, Harris completed 27-of-57 (.474) passes for 376 yards and six touchdowns and zero interceptions. In addition, he rushed 19 times for 117 yards and one score.
This is the second consecutive season that the starting Duke quarterback has been placed on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List. Last season, former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones was named to the 2018 Watch List in the beginning of the season. Jones went on to complete 237-of-392 (.605) passes for 2,674 yards with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing 104 times for 319 yards (3.07). Jones led Duke to its sixth bowl game in seven years and was named Walk-On's Independence Bowl Offensive Player of the Game before being drafted sixth overall by the New York Giants in the 2019 NFL Draft.
