DURHAM, N.C. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the preseason regional rankings today, with the Duke women's cross country team picked third in the southeast region.
The Blue Devils begin the 2019 campaign right where they left off in 2018, as they finished third in the southeast regional at the end of the season a year ago.
“It is great to see the women ranked third in the region,” said head coach Rhonda Riley. “The team knows that they need to put in the work daily to achieve the results we are working towards. Rankings are great but not something we focus on as a program.
The ACC represents six schools within the top ten, with N.C. State number one in the region. Following Duke at number four is Wake Forest, Virginia Tech (five), Virginia (six) and North Carolina (ten).
Duke opens the 2019 season under the lights Friday, August 30 at the Elon Opener in Elon, N.C., on the Elon cross country course at 8 p.m.
