The Blue Devils got back to their winning ways last Saturday by defeating North Carolina A&T, 45-13, in their home opener. Duke used three-straight scores over a little more than a three-minute span late in the second quarter to break the game open at 28-10 heading into the break. Duke then limited the Aggies to just three points over the next 30 minutes to secure its first victory of the year.

This weekend's game will mark the first meeting between Duke and Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders head into the contest with a 1-1 record after defeating Tennessee State last Saturday, 45-26. It was a five-point game heading into the fourth quarter as the Blue Raiders held a slim 24-19 edge over their guests. MTSU outscored Tennessee State, 21-7, in the final frame to secure the win.

Of the 14 schools currently in Conference-USA, Duke has played Rice and Florida International during its 107-year history. The Blue Devils head into the weekend with a 7-1 mark against C-USA competition.

Elected by their teammates, six returning lettermen will serve as team captains for the 2019 campaign: OG Zach Baker, DT Edgar Cerenord, QB Quentin Harris, DE Tre Hornbuckle, LB Koby Quansah and S Dylan Singleton.

Duke DEs Hornbuckle and Victor Dimukeje have 17.5 and 17.0 career tackles for loss, respectively, to make Duke one of three ACC schools with multiple players with 16.0+ career TFL, joining Miami and Syracuse.
 Jalon Calhoun (2), Mataeo Durant (2) and Eli Pancolall registered their first career scores last weekend. Calhoun had touchdowns in the first and third quarters, while Durant finished with a score in the second and fourth periods. Pancol found the end zone in the second quarter following a 39-yard pass from Harris.

Speaking of Harris, all four of his touchdown passes last Saturday covered over 20 yards (Calhoun TD - 38 + 24 yards; Durant TD - 22 yards; and Pancol TD - 39 yards).

For the second-straight outing, Singleton was all over the field making a team-leading nine tackles, including seven solo shots. He chipped in 1.5 tackles for a loss of four yards and one fumble recovery as well. Quansah, Brandon Hill and Dimukeje each added five, four and four tackles in Saturday's game. Quansah led the team with 2.0 tackles for loss (seven yards), while Leonard Johnson and Hornbuckle recorded one forced fumble apiece.

Duke has made bowl game appearances in six of the past seven seasons. The Blue Devils have won each of their past three bowl games with victories in the 2015 New Era Pinstripe, 2017 Quick Lane & 2018 Walk-On's Independence bowls.

This season marks the 75th anniversary of Duke's 1944 squad which went 6-4, captured the Southern Conference championship, defeated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and closed the year ranked 11th in the final Associated Press poll ... Coached by Eddie Cameron, the Blue Devils started the year 1-4 before reeling off five-straight wins over Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, South Carolina, North Carolina and Alabama.
This season, Duke will don a "McGEE" helmet sticker in memory of former Blue Devil lettermen, coaches and twin brothers Jerry and Mike McGee, who passed away on January 6, 2019 and August 16, 2019, respectively ... Jerry, who served as an assistant coach at Kansas State, Southern Illinois, East Carolina and Duke, led Edenton Holmes (N.C.) High School to a pair of state championships in 1964 and 1965 and is enshrined in the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, National High School Hall of Fame and National Interscholastic Administrators Association Hall of Fame ... As a senior guard at Duke in 1959, Mike McGee earned first team All-America and ACC Player of the Year honors while claiming the Outland Trophy as the nation's top interior lineman, went on to earn induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1990 and later served as the head coach at his alma mater (1971-78) and then as Athletic Director at Cincinnati, Southern California and South Carolina.
