HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Duke volleyball team went 1-1 Saturday in Hempstead, N.Y., to close out the non-conference slate at the Hofstra Invitational. The Blue Devils fell to St. John's (3-1) before defeating Hofstra (3-1) at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Sophomore
Ade Owokoniran amassed 40 kills over three games while
Lily Cooper added 16 blocks.
MATCH 1 vs. ST. JOHN'S
The Blue Devils fell to St. John's 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 12-25) in the first match of the day on Saturday.
Duke was led by Owokoniran with 14 kills and only four attack errors to hit .286 while rookie
Lizzie Fleming added 10 of her and two errors to hit .348 percent for the match.

Samantha Amos accounted for four blocks each and offensively, setters
Alex Springate and
Camille Nazor dished 21 and 19 assists, respectively. As a team, Duke hit .281 percent that included a .462 percent in Duke's third set victory with 15 kills and just three errors.
St. John's was led by three players with double-digit kills in Rachele Rastelli (14), Efrosini Alexakou (13) and Ariadni Kathariou (12) to help the Red Storm hit .312 for the game.
MATCH 2 vs. HOFSTRA
The Blue Devils defeated Hofstra 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21), and was highlighted by Duke's block. Duke tallied 13 blocks to Hofstra's five. Duke also registered nine service aces as
Mackenzie Cole and Fleming each had three.
The Blue Devils were once again led by Owokoniran with 16 kills to hit .289 percent. Springate dished 20 assists and added 15 digs in her solid performance.
The Pride opened the fourth set hitting .562 through the first 12 points as Duke trailed 13-6. A 7-0 scoring run sparked a Duke comeback before a 7-0 run to tie it up and ultimately take the match.
The Blue Devils will return to Durham for the start of ACC play. Duke will take on No. 23 Florida State Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m., before welcoming Miami for a 1 p.m., contest Sunday. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.
