Saturday Rewind: A Look Back at the Virginia Tech Game

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke football team registered its largest road win in ACC play since 1989 after it took down Virginia Tech, 45-10, on Friday night.Â

Let's take a quick rewind to see how everything unfolded.
For the 12th consecutive year the Duke's football coaches displayed their support of the Coach To Cure MD program when they took the field against Virginia Tech. Over the last 11 years, Coach to Cure MD has raised over $2.1 million for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Dushenne). Football fans can donate by going online to www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by texting the word CURE to 501501 to make a $25 donation to help fund the fight to end Duchenne.
The Hokies held a 3-0 lead after the first quarter but 31-straight points by the Blue Devils created a 31-3 gap between the teams. During that stretch, redshirt senior quarterback Quentin Harris connected with teammate Noah Gray for two touchdowns, while rookie Jalon Calhoun relived his high school days as a quarterback when he threw a dime to running back Deon Jackson for a 25-yard catch-and-go score. Harris also scampered in for his third rushing touchdown in the last three games to add onto Duke's final total.

Duke saw AJ Reed remain perfect through the uprights as well when the redshirt junior converted on a 31-yarder in the third quarter.
Oh, and lets not forget about the defense. The Blue Devils turned two Virginia Tech turnovers into 14 points after Koby Quansah and Leonard Johnson registered a fumble recovery and interception, respectively, during the game.Â

After the game, Harris acknowledged all of Duke's great fans who traveled to Blacksburg for the Friday night game.

Head coach David Cutcliffe registered his 70th win at the helm of Duke football following Friday's rout of Virginia Tech. You could say he, along with the team, were a little excited about the win.
The Blue Devils return to Durham next Saturday when they host the Pittsburgh Panthers at 8 p.m. for their ACC home opener. It is also Durham Day in Wallace Wade Stadium with discounted tickets available to Durham residents.
