PORTLAND, Ore. – The Duke men's golf team continues its fall schedule Sunday at the Nike Collegiate Invitational in Portland, Ore., an event where the top-ranked Blue Devils are the defending champions.
The 54-hole, three-day tournament begins Sunday morning at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, a par-71, 6,997-yard track that has hosted PGA Tour events and the 1999 U.S. Amateur. Last year's Nike Collegiate was contested at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where
Chandler Eaton won the individual title and Duke claimed the team trophy.
Another stacked field will tee it up at the NCI that features Duke, defending National Champion Stanford, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Clemson, Georgia, TCU, Oregon, Oregon State, Florida and Baylor. Of the 15 teams, eight are ranked in this week's Bushnell Coaches Poll.
A first-team Preseason All-American, Eaton is back in the lineup for the Blue Devils in Portland, along with senior classmate
Steven DiLisio, junior
Adrien Pendaries, junior
Evan Katz and sophomore
Quinn Riley.
Pendaries matched his career-best finish of second place in Duke's opening event of the season at the
Rod Myers Invitational in early September. The junior carded three rounds in the 60s on his way to a 10-under 206 at the Duke Golf Club where the Blue Devils were edged by Wake Forest for the team title.
Duke and Wake enter the weekend as the nation's top two ranked teams, respectively, in the early-season
Golfweek rankings. In this week's Bushnell Coaches Poll, Wake and Duke are ranked fourth and seventh, respectively, along with No. 3 Baylor, No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 10 Texas, No. 15 Clemson, No. 20 Georgia and No. 21 Stanford.
