DURHAM, N.C. – Following another impressive season, head coach
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to now welcome the 2020 recruiting class. Right-handed pitcher and outfielder
Mason Manriquez is a part of the talented group set to arrive in Durham next fall.
"Mason Manriquez is out of the same high school that Andrew Istler went to, so there's a lineage there," said Pollard. "He's trained with Andrew Istler, a former terrific pitcher here at Duke. He's another guy in this class that's got a really electric swing and miss breaking ball, able to produce a lot of swing and miss with the breaking ball, a lot of arm strength. He has since transferred to American Heritage High School. He'll arguably be on the very best high school team in the country and it will most certainly be the very best high school pitching staff in the country, so a guy that has a chance to win a mythical high school national championship and certainly maybe the best high school program in the state of Florida."
A letterwinner at American Heritage High School, Manriquez comes to Durham as a native of Wellington, Fla. Manriquez enjoyed an impressive junior campaign on the mound, posting a 4-1 record, while sporting a 1.37 ERA. The right-hander made 14 appearances, while notching two complete games and recording three saves and 44 strikeouts en route to leading his squad to a district championship in 2019.
Manriquez's father was a collegiate athlete at Marist College, competing in baseball from 1994-1998.
Manriquez is regarded as a top-500 national prospect according to Perfect Game, being listed as the No. 130 right-handed pitcher in the country. Additionally, the organization lists Manriquez as the 74
th-ranked prospect and the 19
th-best right-handed pitcher in the state of Florida.
Manriquez is a part of Duke's 12-member 2020 recruiting class. GoDuke.com is set to release details on all 12 of the newest Blue Devils in the coming weeks.
